| Lesson Topic: Explain the role of enzymes in digestion with reference to amylase, protease and lipase. | |
Learning Objective/s:
Materials Needed:
Introduction: Begin with a short video clip showing chewing and the mouth’s role in digestion to hook interest. Ask students what they already know about “digestive juices” and record ideas on the board. Explain that today they will discover how three key enzymes break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats, and outline the success criteria: identify each enzyme’s site, substrate and optimal conditions. |
Lesson Structure:
Conclusion: Recap the three enzymes, their sites of action and why optimal conditions matter. Collect exit tickets to gauge understanding and address any misconceptions. Assign homework: students create a labelled diagram of the alimentary canal highlighting where amylase, protease and lipase act, and bring it to the next lesson. |
