Grade: Date: 18/01/2026
Subject: Spanish
Lesson Topic: The natural world, the environment, the climate and the weather
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify and correctly use at least 20 topic‑specific vocabulary items related to the environment, climate and weather.
  • Differentiate between ser and estar when describing natural phenomena.
  • Conjugate regular -ar, -er and -ir verbs and apply them in spoken and written tasks.
  • Interpret simple climate data tables and describe trends using comparative language in Spanish.
  • Produce a short essay or role‑play that integrates the new vocabulary, correct grammar and appropriate linking expressions.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector / interactive whiteboard
  • Printed vocabulary handouts
  • Blank world maps (one per pair)
  • Data sheets with temperature & precipitation tables
  • Poster paper, markers, coloured pencils
  • Audio clip of a Spanish weather forecast
  • Teacher’s assessment checklist
Introduction:

Begin with a brief news clip about a recent extreme weather event to capture interest. Ask students what weather‑related words they already know in Spanish and record them on the board. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to use key vocabulary, apply ser/estar correctly, and produce a short spoken or written description of environmental issues.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – Students list five Spanish words about the environment on a sticky note; quick share for checking prior knowledge.
  2. Vocabulary Relay (10') – Teams race to place vocabulary cards into categories (nature, environment, climate, weather) on the board.
  3. Grammar Mini‑lesson (10') – Review ser vs estar with examples; brief practice conjugating regular -ar, -er, -ir verbs relevant to the topic.
  4. Map Exercise (10') – Using blank world maps, pairs label major climate zones in Spanish (e.g., “clima tropical”, “clima polar”).
  5. Data Interpretation & Speaking (15') – Students analyse the temperature/precipitation table, describe trends in Spanish, then perform a 2‑minute weather‑forecast role‑play for a Spanish city.
  6. Writing Task (15') – Draft a short essay (80‑100 words) on environmental problems in their country and propose two solutions; peer‑review using the checklist.
Conclusion:

Summarise how the lesson met the objectives, highlighting correct use of vocabulary and grammar. For the exit ticket, each student writes one sentence describing today’s weather in Spanish. Assign homework: finish the essay draft at home and bring a printed version for the next class.
