Grade: Date: 18/01/2026
Subject: Mandarin Chinese
Lesson Topic: The natural world, the environment, the climate and the weather
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the natural world, environment, climate and weather in Mandarin using key vocabulary.
  • Apply “因为…所以…”, “如果…就…”, and “比…更…” structures to discuss weather and environmental issues.
  • Read a short Chinese passage on climate change and answer comprehension questions.
  • Write a 120‑character paragraph on a chosen topic, demonstrating accurate vocabulary and grammar.
  • Present weather descriptions and debate renewable‑energy ideas fluently in oral activities.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Printed vocabulary & sentence‑pattern handouts
  • Reading passage copies
  • Worksheets for fill‑in‑the‑blank and comprehension
  • Flashcards of key terms
  • Audio clips of weather reports (optional)
  • Whiteboard, markers, timer
Introduction:

Begin with a brief news clip about recent extreme weather to capture interest. Ask students what weather‑related words they already know and link this to the new vocabulary. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to describe weather, discuss environmental problems, and use cause‑effect, conditional and comparative sentences correctly.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Matching activity – students match Chinese terms to English meanings on the board.
  2. Vocabulary & sentence patterns (10'): Teacher presents key words and structures via slides; choral repetition and quick oral drills.
  3. Reading comprehension (10'): Students read the climate‑change paragraph, then answer pair‑work questions.
  4. Grammar focus (10'): Mini‑lesson on “因为…所以…”, “如果…就…”, “比…更…”; guided sentence transformation practice.
  5. Speaking activity (15'): Small groups prepare a 30‑second weather description and present; followed by a brief debate on renewable energy.
  6. Writing task (15'): Students begin a 120‑character essay on a chosen sub‑topic; peer feedback on vocabulary and grammar.
  7. Wrap‑up & check (5'): Quick whole‑class recap of key points.
Conclusion:

Review the objectives, highlighting how students described weather, used the target structures, and began their writing. For the exit ticket, each student writes one sentence describing today’s weather using “因为…所以…”. Homework: complete the 120‑character essay and bring a printed copy for the next class.
