Grade: Date: 18/01/2026
Subject: Business
Lesson Topic: ways of improving communication in a given situation
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify common barriers to effective communication in a business context.
  • Analyse a specific communication scenario and select appropriate channels.
  • Design a clear, audience‑focused message using simple language.
  • Implement feedback mechanisms and evaluate communication effectiveness.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Printed scenario handout
  • Communication channel comparison chart (digital or printed)
  • Sticky notes and markers
  • Feedback questionnaire template
  • Laptop with presentation software
Introduction:

Begin with a brief video showing a miscommunication incident in a product launch. Ask students to recall times they experienced unclear instructions at work and discuss why clear communication matters for managers. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to evaluate barriers, choose suitable channels, and create feedback loops.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5’) – Students list personal experiences of communication breakdowns on sticky notes.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Review why communication is critical for managers and introduce the four main barrier types.
  3. Scenario analysis (15’) – In pairs, read the new product line scenario, complete audience analysis and choose a channel using the comparison chart.
  4. Message crafting workshop (15’) – Groups draft a concise briefing, apply the “sandwich” feedback technique, and swap for peer review.
  5. Feedback loop & evaluation (10’) – Conduct a quick Q&A, complete a questionnaire, and discuss how to monitor understanding.
  6. Whole‑class debrief (5’) – Summarise key steps and link to the flowchart diagram.
Conclusion:

Recap the five‑step process from audience analysis to evaluation, highlighting the importance of feedback loops. Students complete an exit ticket stating which channel they would use for the scenario and why. Assign homework to observe a real workplace communication and write a brief improvement plan.
