Grade: Date: 18/01/2026
Subject: Information Technology IT
Lesson Topic: Evaluate IT impacts on society (healthcare, education, surveillance)
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the main IT applications used in healthcare, education and surveillance.
  • Analyse the economic, social and ethical benefits and drawbacks of these applications.
  • Evaluate the overall impact of IT on each sector and propose balanced recommendations for future use.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Laptop with internet access
  • Printed handouts summarising sector applications and impacts
  • Case‑study worksheets for group analysis
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Evaluation rubric sheets
Introduction:

Start with a quick poll: “Which IT tool has most changed your daily life?” Connect this to students’ existing knowledge of digital technologies. Explain that today’s success criteria are to identify key applications, compare benefits and drawbacks, and produce a balanced evaluation of IT’s societal impact.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – Students answer the poll question and write one sentence about its impact.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10') – Present the evaluation framework (identify applications, analyse benefits & drawbacks, weigh overall impact).
  3. Group analysis (20') – Each group receives a sector handout (healthcare, education or surveillance) and fills an evaluation table using the worksheet.
  4. Whole‑class sharing (10') – Groups present key findings; teacher records common themes on the board.
  5. Guided discussion (10') – Compare sectors, discuss ethical considerations, and explore future trends.
  6. Exit ticket (5') – Students write one benefit and one risk for any sector studied.
Conclusion:

Recap the main benefits and risks identified across the three sectors, stressing the need for ethical governance and digital inclusion. Collect exit tickets and assign a short homework essay: propose a policy that balances IT advantages with privacy and equity concerns.
